As the Google Nest Hub Max has a larger display, it is unsurprisingly a larger device overall too. And still, in those 11 months, these core problems have not been fixed. Really, outside of the tweak to event-based history, Google hasn’t made any meaningful changes to the complaints long-time Nest users have had with the revamped experience. The new history feed is the closest we’ve gotten to a meaningful improvement, and even that doesn’t solve actual complaints.
That said, if the option to video chat or have a monitoring device in the home is enticing, Google Nest Hub Max is the way to go. Im really pretty sure that the volume and bass on the nest audio will be sufficient for my use, but i dont want to spend $170 to find out. I can only find one discussion on this here at reddit and no one could give a real comparison. Lots of love for the max, but idk that anyone in the thread had even heard the nest audio. The Nest Hub also comes with a Sleep Sensing feature, which employs a Soli motion sensor, temperature data, and the room’s ambient sound/light levels to analyze certain metrics.

The Nest Audio has a reworked control system
As we went into detail with in our original Google Nest Cam review, the Home app still feels disorganized and less-than-predictable when it comes to various settings and options for these cameras. Last year, Google refreshed the Nest camera lineup for the first time in several years, but it also came with a change on the software side of things. The Google Home app is supposed to replace the Nest app, but the transition period has been a maddening limbo. Nearly a year later, virtually nothing has changed on that front either. It's not true stereo, it just plays the exact same thing in 2 different speakers.
The Hubs have a pull-down screen that gives you access to and control over your smart home devices. On the Hub, you can watch video tutorials, while a Nest Audio, Nest Mini, Home, Home Mini, or Home Max will read you the instructions. A 10-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 means the Google Nest Hub Max is the largest smart display Google offers.

Beyond that, Portal smart displays also include fun, Snapchat-like filters for your face -- things like silly hats and animated masks. The volume controls appear on the left rear of both devices, and the microphone on/off button is at the top section in the back. That same button is used to turn the camera off on the Nest Hub Max. The Google Nest Hub Max is pretty much a larger, more expensive version of the 7-inch Nest Hub, but it adds a few extra, useful features for the increase in price.
